Shelver (part-time)

Do you have a passion for keeping books organized? Do you want to be part of an all-star team that is providing a valuable resource to the community?    We have an opening for one part-time Shelver at the Cuyahoga Falls Library.   The part-time position is scheduled 20 hours per week plus some benefits.   The pay is $8.98 hour.

Our Shelvers provides an important function in the library by organizing books and other library materials.    Other responsibilities include: empties book drop, sorts and shelves returned materials, maintains conditions of shelves and ensure materials are in proper order on shelves and other duties as assigned.

Some of the requirements are:

  • Ability to work competently, courteously and cheerfully with the public
  • Ability to sort and organize materials quickly and accurately by alphabet and Dewey Decimal System
  • Must be able to stoop, stretch, and stand for entire shift
  • Lift objects up to 25 pounds and carry them, perform repetitive hand, arm and body movement
  • Ability to push a cart with books on it
  • Familiarity with Windows and other basic computer software
  • Detail-oriented, flexible, enthusiastic
  • Dependable, conscientious, self-motivated
  • High School graduate or equivalent experience and training

Student Assistant, Summer Seasonal

General Duties:

  • Sorts and organizes returned materials onto carts and returns to proper place in designated areas
  • Reads shelves for correctness of arrangement of materials
  • Shifts shelves where necessary, as directed
  • Checks for missing and/or damaged materials
  • Straightens patron areas, moving furniture & replenishing supplies
  • In preparation for programs, arranges computers and technology equipment and makerspace components and furniture ensuring they are properly arranged and equipment is in place
  • Rotates/purges dated newspapers and periodicals
  • Flags materials for repair, mending or processing
  • Lifts, bends, and climbs as associated with shelving routines
  • Performs various tasks assigned by professional Library staff
  • Straightens and cleans staff room, counters and refrigerator
  • Clears walkways of snow and ice as needed

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age and eligible for a Work Permit.
  • Must be a full-time student and be available to work between 10-15 hours per week, including evenings, Saturdays and Sundays
  • Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to work with a high level of accuracy, the ability to work well with others, the ability to lift 25 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation, and the ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of alphabetizing the Dewey Decimal system
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work courteously and effectively with other employees and the public
  • Consistent attendance according to schedule

Criminal background check is required for candidates over the age of 18.

Student Assistants are not eligible for employee benefits.


Library Assistants — Children’s Services (part-time)

Do you enjoy providing top rated customer service? Are you enthusiastic to help children?  Do you want to be part of an all-star team that is providing a valuable resource to the community?    We have two openings for Library Assistant – Children’s Services at the Cuyahoga Falls Library.   The positions are part-time (20) per week.

The Cuyahoga Falls Library mission is to connect people with the world of ideas, information, and imagination by providing access and professional guidance to resources that inform, entertain and enrich.

This position assists in accomplishing that mission by:

  • Providing information and reader’s advisory service in person and over the telephone.
  • Assists in creating and executing children’s program and events.
  • Assists and instructs the public in the use of the library’s collection and equipment.
  • Assists with the development of the children’s collection
  • Conduct preschool and other community outreach initiatives
  • Acts as a mentor by connecting patrons and staff with information, tools, and resources to pursue their passions.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MLS degree preferred

Essential Functions/Knowledge of the Position

  • Performs information desk duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Enthusiastic about excellent customer service for internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of children’s literature and other resources for young people
  • Knowledge and experience in literacy development, reading instruction and STEAM

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

These are part-time positions approximately 20 hours a week.   Days and hours of work vary by schedule.   Evening and weekend work will be required as schedule demands.
