Part-Time Clerk (posted 12/29/2017)

Do you enjoy providing top rated customer service? Do you want to be part of an all-star team that is providing a valuable resource to the community? We have an opening for one part-time Circulation Clerk at the Cuyahoga Falls Library.   The part-time position is scheduled 20 hours per week plus some benefits.   The pay is $9.54/hour.

Our Circulation Clerks provide excellent customer service, quickly and accurately checking items out and checking them in for library customers.  Other responsibilities include processing and updating confidential customer records; operating and maintaining equipment, including computers, printers, cash registers, security devices, etc.; moving and handling all types of library materials; other duties as assigned.

Some of the job responsibilities are:

  • Ability to work competently, courteously, and cheerfully with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues
  • General computer skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Clerical skills, including keyboarding
  • Ability to stand at public service counter for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and move books and other library material, transporting materials using a book truck and/or book bin
  • Ability to efficiently use a cash register and other business equipment
  • Familiarity with Windows and other basic computer software
  • Detail-oriented, flexible, enthusiastic
  • Dependable, conscientious, self-motivated
  • High School graduate or equivalent experience and training

Children’s Manager (posted 11/29/2017)

Do you have management experience in a Library?   Do you have an ALA Accredited Masters of Library and Information Services degree?   If you want to work with an All-Star team now is your chance to apply for a position at the Cuyahoga Falls Library.

The Children’s Manager will plan, design, promote, present and evaluate library programs including story time, technology, maker space and STEM for children and families.   Work with an innovative team to bring services to the community.   Execute assigned special administrative projects within the library. Under the general supervision of the Library Director, manages the day-to-day operation of the Children’s department.

Essential Functions of the Position

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proven leadership qualities that foster teamwork, effective communication and high morale.
  • Recognizes the benefits of change and understand the principles, processes and responsibilities for managing organizational change.
  • Plans, manages and evaluates the activities of the Children’s Department; coordinates services with other library activities and departments.
  • Keeps pace with technology and trends and is committed to continuous technology training.
  • Analyzes community information needs, identifies trends in information delivery and designs programs and services to provide optimum service.
  • Collaborates with other departments and provides opportunity for employees to be cross-trained.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of library services collection, databases and programs; makes adjustments as necessary to assure the delivery of the highest quality service.
  • Assists the Director in developing maintaining a long range plan for services and resources that meet the changing needs of the community.
  • Conducts staff meetings to transmit information about policies and procedures, solves departmental problems and solicits staff input.  Keeps supervisor informed of departmental needs and concerns.
  • Participates in budgetary planning; monitors budget.
  • Conducts special studies, surveys and prepares reports.
  • In the absence of administration assumes person-in-charge responsibilities in matters pertaining to security and customer service.
  • Interview, select, train, supervise and schedule supervisory staff in Children’s Department.
  • Develops procedures for tasks and reviews work assignments.
  • Monitors and coaches employee performance; conducts performance appraisals; recommends personnel actions.
  • Demonstrates superior seamless customer service to customers of all ages, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activities.
  • Incorporates innovative ideas and problem-solving skills to build partnerships, reduce barriers and provide outstanding programs, services, and resources for library customers.
  • Identify, initiate and manage fundraising opportunities including but not limited to levy, grant and foundation supported at the federal, state and local levels.
  • Communicates library policies and procedures and pertinent statistics to staff; implements and assures compliance.
  • Show enthusiasm and commitment to literacy excellent customer service, genuine public service orientation and the ability to work with all age groups.
  • Develop staff through mentoring, coaching and training.
  • Demonstrates respect for delivery and inclusion of cultural values.
  • May complete other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • ALA Accredited Masters of Library and Information Science required
  • Three years of supervisory experience in a public library
  • Knowledge of Library policies and procedures and Library laws
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving history, and personal automobile for job-related transportation
  • Satisfactory criminal background check
  • Prefer experience working in a union environment

Pay Range is $23.50 – $29.67

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time exempt position.   Days and hours of work vary by schedule.   Evening and weekend work will be required as schedule demands.
