Governance
Special Board Meeting: July 29 at 5:30p.m to discuss the employment of a public employee.
Board of Trustees
An all-volunteer Board of Trustees governs Cuyahoga Falls Library. Five members represent the Taylor Memorial Association and serve for life; six members are public trustees serving three-year terms; two members are appointed by the Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education, and four members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Cuyahoga Falls City Council.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the general operations of the library, setting policy, hiring and working with the director, and the library’s financial well-being.
The Board meets at 7 p.m. in the library on the third Tuesday of every month except for the annual meeting in January, when it meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
There are several ways to share questions, concerns and suggestions with the Board:
– Write a letter (Attention: Board of Trustees, 2015 Third St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221)
– Send an email addressed to trustees (board@fallslibraryboard.org)
– Address the Board in person during the public portion of a Board meeting
All petitions, applications, and communications intended for consideration by the Board must be received by noon on the Thursday before the Board meeting.
Board Policies
Strategic Plan
On August 28, 2017 the Cuyahoga Falls Library implemented its first strategic planning process. We gathered input from the community through an online survey (318 responses) and through the facilitation of one community stakeholder focus group (4 attendees). In addition, staff input was gathered via an online survey (36 responses). Over the course of several months, the Board of Trustees, with input from library staff, developed a strategic plan using all of this input.
Feedback from the surveys and focus group indicated the Cuyahoga Falls Library is valued for its role as a place for education and information in support of lifelong learning, and as a provider of vital tools and services such as computers, scanners and public awareness programs. Respondents spoke highly of the use of library meeting rooms and the visual appearance of the building. Some respondents recommended the need for more services and programming for all ages, but especially for those in the 20-30 year old range and those 55 years and older. The themes from the surveys are carried throughout the plan and are supported by objectives and action steps that propel the library into the future.
